Criteria
Must be an incoming, full-time graduate student with an interest in pursuing a career in environmental engineering
Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
About the Donor

This scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Dennis A. Clifford, Ph.D., P.E., BCEE. The department of Civil and Environmental Engineering completed a fundraising campaign in 2010 to establish a scholarship in honor Dr. Dennis Clifford for his 33 years of service to the University of Houston and the Cullen College of Engineering.

Dr. Dennis Clifford is Thomas and Laura Hsu Professor Emeritus in the Cullen College of Engineering at the University of Houston where, for 34 years, he was a dedicated teacher and researcher in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He taught courses in water chemistry and physical-chemical treatment processes, chaired the CEE Department for five years, and directed the Environmental Engineering Graduate Program for fifteen years. Dr. Clifford is a Professional Engineer with more than forty years of experience in water treatment with special emphasis on ion exchange and adsorption processes for the removal of inorganic and radioactive contaminants from water, which was the focus of his research. Professor Clifford's doctoral degree in Environmental Engineering was earned at the University of Michigan. His bachelor and master's degrees in Chemical Engineering were earned at Michigan Technological University and the University of Michigan. Prior to entering academia in 1976, Dr. Clifford worked for nine years in industry and consulting.
